GD&T

Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) is the drawing language that says how accurate each feature of a part must be and how it will be checked. These lessons follow one fictional part, the AH-101 mounting bracket, from a plain drawing to full feature control frames.

Lessons

  1. Lesson 1 of 4 ~13 min read

    Reading engineering drawings

You'll be able to find the part number, revision, material, units and default tolerances in a title block in under a minute.

  2. Lesson 2 of 4 ~13 min read

Datums and the datum reference frame

You'll be able to tell a datum feature, its datum feature simulator and the datum apart on a real part and its inspection setup.

  3. Lesson 3 of 4 ~13 min read

    The feature control frame

You'll be able to name every compartment of a feature control frame and say what each one tells you, reading left to right.

  4. Lesson 4 of 4 ~13 min read

    Form and orientation controls

You'll be able to describe the tolerance zone for flatness, straightness, circularity, cylindricity, perpendicularity, parallelism and angularity.
